Free Reticule.
MP4 will have mech3 style free Reticule as an option. Currently it is not exactly the same, but it works.
Here is a video of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6w_UicWA1wIt is not exactly the same as the previous version, this version does not auto correct the cockpit like in mech3. So if you get hit, your cockpit moves, which is why I bound it to a button on my mouse and only aim with it for a short period of time.

Artillery Range Indicator.
Artillery Cannon fans rejoice. An evolution of the fixed hash marks on the radar display previously introduced to aid in targeting with artillery cannons at range, now in a convenient text readout that changes with torso pitch. Demonstrated here with an Infiltrator BA using a Mortar.
Screen 1 shows Crate 500 targeted with reticle at 623 meters.
Screen 2 shows torso pitched up so the LTRI above the radar reads 623 meters, mortar fired.
Screen 3 shows direct impact on Crate 500.

Wow. This stuff is just mind blowing. I mean, this looks like the biggest evolution this game series has made since MW4:V came out almost 8 years ago. A lot of questions for you all but most of all, how did you do it? What changed between now and then? The standard response to electronics questions was always "source code" but it looks like you've blown the thing wide open in terms of possibilities. Good job, can't wait to play it.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves on this yet. The free reticle is being removed for the next beta update because of some animation issues and some other problems, and will likely be pulled for the original release. It will have to wait for a future release to include it but I will save that for private discussions.

Ah, I do believe this is a current incarnation of a new jump jet system. You can see the J at the top of the bar? I assume you also note the direction the mech is facing and the trail it's jets are leaving.
Directional jump jets are a reality once more. The bar changes colour to indicate velocity, because if you land moving too fast it'll have an effect on your mech, from heat buildup to tripping to damaging the legs. This goes not only for jumps with movement in any direction, but also landing too heavily from straight up and down.
The general idea is to give greater jump jet use and manueverability, while at the same time forcing people to be more careful with their use and making it harder for people to exessively use the tactic. Jump jets will require great skill to be used effectively and a hundred tonnes of mech hitting the ground at speed will finally have some of the consequences it should have. So just remember to keep some thrust free to brake with in future

The stealth system I cannot be entirely accurate about as it's still a little up in the air. However there are significant changes to the detection systems. For example, radar now relies upon LOS (Line of site) so you can't get a mech on radar if it's obscured by terrain, buildings, etc. BAP allows detection despite this, and ECM further limits detection. ECM also has a few different options now, including a JAMMING device that can interfere with a mechs componants, such as the C3 system which has also been reintroduced to allow a team to better communicate sensor information.
All componants, ECM, BAP and all the new ones, can be toggled on or off at the whim of the pilot (or at the destruction of the componant). We've also reintroduced AMS and LAMS properly, with ammunition troubles for one and heat worries for the other. There's a lot of other goodies, but that's the general rundown of what's been shown in this thread so far, I'll be happy to answer any questions that don't tell more than we are allowed to at this point.

I notice that the max value on the rangefinder is 10,000 meters now, and BAP seems to give you 2,400 meter radar. I wonder if anything has happened to some of the weapon ranges...
I really like how bringing up the mini map no longer obscures your radar scope, that was a good idea. What's that "lock adv/lock vul" thing next to the damage display? Speaking of the damage display, is there a reason why all the screenies have it in bar mode? I mean, seeing as we now got the mektek mechs coded in single player, I don't think it would be too wild to assume that they no longer use other mech ID's and have their own custom damage display

I could be wrong here, but I think that's the C3 system giving the extra range on your radar screen.

This represents the difference in difficulty you have being locked on to and locking onto enemies with missile weapons. These are already functions in the game but for our purposes, there is a readout so we can keep track of exactly what equipment has what effect.

New features for Enhanced Optics and how they affect the zoom window and light amplification.
Traditional implementation of Enhanced Optics is that it simply provides a larger zoom window in place of the standard zoom feature. Also it has been the case for all Mechs that light amplification prevents the zoom window from functioning, so when night fighting the zoom has been of limited use without first turning off light amp.
For MP4 when Enhanced Optics is equipped it now provides the ability to toggle both the standard zoom window as well as the enlarged zoom window, plus the capability to use those zoom windows while light amp is engaged.
The following six images are all taken on a night map. Take note of the various states of the EO and the Light Amp in the component listing.
Picture 1 is the normal view.
Picture 2 is the standard zoom window.
Picture 3 is the enlarged zoom window.
Picture 4 is the normal view with Light Amp. (no more scan lines)
Picture 5 is the standard zoom window with Light Amp.
Picture 6 is the enlarged zoom window with Light Amp.
Mechs without EO function in the usual manner, with just the standard zoom available, but not when Light Amp is engaged.
Heh, looks like EO might actually be useful now, instead of just another shelf component.
I've gotta say, great work Mektek. You guys deserve some major kudos here. This stuff looks amazing. I can't wait to try out all the new strategies and options that MP4 will provide. It'll totally change the game. Time to l2p... again.

Although the changes were great, it removed a technique / skill used during night drops.
With the changes, night maps are now all "green hued" fights. Previously, one has to switch between zoom and light amp mode (ie. not all "green hued"). It was a choice of the pilot what he/she needs more in certain situations (ie. accuracy vs awareness).
With the changes, pilots will have both accuracy and awareness in night drops.
Just my two cents.

Not mechs will have it

. The game has been fundmentaly changed from the way it is played today. The player has a lot more things to take into acount now and tonage, slots, and heat mean a great deal more. The days of just slapping a mech together in 10 sec's and dropping in to a league battle will be no more......

Most players can offset nightfighting with gamma level optiosn in the video settings. I'm afraid the number that do this is much greater than those who don't, i've been forced to do it just to play on a level footing, but night fighting is no challenge.

You mean some players don't adjust the gamma level?
Could the gamma level adjustment be removed? Or would it be too easy to adjust the video card to compensate?

You can always adjust gamma on your monitor, but if i had my way i'd remove the option to adjust gamma in the game to such degrees.
