We could all post pictures and videos of MW4, but players who haven't heard of the game before will possibly have a hard time getting MW4:Mercs. Is it possible/ok to distribute the MW4 CDs / Images to others so that they could play MW4:Mercs using the latest mods (ex. MP4)?

Slowly but surely I've been getting friends or acquaintances into the game by first playing the demo, then getting them to purchase the game in either a bargain bin, ebay, or Amazon. So far, I'm running a 100% success rate.

The Demo of MW4M is after all still there on Microsoft's site, so you can get them started on it without having them pay for anything. It comes with a surprisingly high amount of activity to do on just a little demo, what with it even being LAN-capable and all with 5 'Mechs, two maps and some weapons.

After that, a player can find it online or in a bargain bin for cheap.

I seem to have sparked some side interest on the ZDoom forums. Seems there's some closet 'Mech jocks over there, now all I have to do is swing them around over here.

I can't search for all the good videos Auf / Auk (forgot his name) made. Anyone got links to great MW4 videos? I'm still spamming other gaming forums that haven't deleted my advertising thread yet.

What really needs to be done is to get the community to petition MS to allow us to release a free version of this game (under our control if this is to really work). If they agree to that then game on. Until that happens (fat chance), we have to play by the rules (and agreements already in place). It's not under our discretion at this point, but what you suggest is, technically, doable.

Hey, even if I purchased the game beforehand, I'm all for it becoming freeware (or whatever) later. I say we go ahead with the petition, since they cut out all of their own services, and you all picked up ALL of the pieces.

If whoever owns the license sees such a petition, and if there are enough signatures, it may send a signal that there is still interest and possibility of profit.

It doesnt matter who owns the rights to MechWarrior, but rather who owns the rights to distribute Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries.

Oh, Tamaraw. I've got some suggestions as to features of the videos that you want to pimp on other forums.
Go for ones that display a body-part damage diagram, most people have no idea what an HTAL is, do a third-person video for your ads. Otherwise people don't get a feel for how hugely awesome the 'Mechs are. Final thing is to have in-your-face nasty fighting that looks action-packed. It's hard for most people who play stuff like Quake and Halo to associate with long-range combat being intense.
Also, break it up from different angles. It presents a more interesting feature if they see the same fight from different angles of both 'Mechs. Something like a 1-on-1 brawler battle between a Thor and a Mad Cat would be cool.
Just some ideas, if you do make an ad for MW4. Hell, I'll help if you PM with a time that I can do (preferably on weekends). I'm rusty, still limbering up from a year of no playing but I'll help however I can (except filming, my computer won't handle it).

i've seen them all. the intro of mercs is much more impressive than any of them imho.

a good bet would be to wait for the betas to come up with a few more MP4 vids and use those.

Yah, I'm waiting for MP4 music videos. Sometimes people gets into it just by the sound and good video editing alone. Although action packed sequences could work too, i'm not sure how a non-MW4 player would interpret what's he's seeing though ... so I bet the music weighs alot, 'coz it's universal.

So much activity in this forum, the reason I like to advertise MW4 here.

I got hooked on MW2 when i saw a 100 tonner fire everything he has in the camera. i know i was like "wtf?!? i don't know what that is but it HAS to hurt. and it's a big giant robot as well!" with no sound.

what i'm saying is - some people get hooked on a video because of the crappy background music, some get hooked because they can fire alot of stuff. what i'm saying is, getting some NHUA, armor stripped footage might not be such a bad deal. Load a longbow with tons of LRM20s or CSTRK6s and blast a 8ERLL Supernova to bits after it killed some third guy might not be a bad scene at all.

Thats actually a pretty good idea. If I may i'd like to adjust it a bit.

I reckon we should have a stripped 100-tonner (Atlas or Behemoth, something with an "OH S***!" factor) carry as many different types of weapons as possible (1 LRM 20,1 PPC, 1 LMG, 1 Gauss, 1 ERLL, 1 x-pulse etc..)and alpha strike the other guy. It might not be damage-effective, but sure as hell would be some pretty good eye candy.

those vids are the best MW vids ive ever seen.. The first time ive ever seen on a vid people playing the way i did.. brawling with the victor JJ everywhere.. dfas the whole 9 yards .. fantastic stuff.. those multiple kill sequences were great.. DAMN i need my pc back.

I can get on Friday night or Saturday morning, all we need is a third guy to make it easier to do 'death-bringer' footage.
I think I could fraps my end of the video feed, the other two guys do the same and if anyone here has skill at video editing I'd hand it to them (I'm not very good at all).

I had a dream last night, and funnily enough the video you guys are planning to do was in it. It was all going great, then all of a sudden this Flea comes along and starts to kill all the stripped down assaults with an MG array...



So it got me thinking, should we do a 2nd video with something as riduclous as a flea taking down assaults by the truckload? Just as a comical way of promoting MW4.

I've seen alot of MWL brawler videos in other video sharing sites, too bad I couldn't save them. I wanted to upload them in my YouTube account. It'll be a good addition for the "more graphic" non-MW4 people.

Ive just remembered some guy was willing to go door-to-door to promote MW4 some months ago... forgot his name, but if he was actually serious and is reading this, I'd like to know how it all turned out.

WTF?!? I'm all for promoting MW4, but i'm not going too far as to go door-to-door. But i'm interested to hear what happened too.

If only I have a LAN shop, then i'll promote the damn game. Something like a whole day free of MW4 gaming. Hmm, gives me an idea, I'll ask my friend who owns a LAN shop if he could promote the game.
