Electro
I started up a Mech Lab forum for posting and viewing configs a few days ago per discussion in the Requests forum.... need some more people, so I thought I'd advertise it here. Its a free forum, so its got some adds on it, but I'm sure everyone can ignore that tongue.gif

Anyway, URL is http://mw4lab.free-forums.org/mw4lab.html

Look forward to having more people register and getting a good collection of configs up there
Electro
Starting to get a decent amount of configs on the site.... most seem to be for light mechs though, suprising since majority of what you see on open servers are assaults huh.gif
OutlawFurey
but most of what you see on the servers are pilots who don't show up here at MT =P
Akula
I am working up configs and try to post one of each weight class. Many I've had to do major revisions.
das_nooblet
2 of each for me so far, with a couple others tongue.gif

Seems to be down thisevening, any idea why?
DesolatedMaggot
No clue why it was down, but it's back up now.
WildMonster
i ll post some configs as soon as i can wink.gif
JackNamara
Hi !

Nice Thread, i don`t want to post configs (as everybody can do em on their own), just want to describe how i do when i want to "arm" a mech.

1.)
First i remove all equipment, all speed, all heat sinks and all weapons.

2.)
then max Ferro Armor

after that:

reduce leg armor (but keep AT LEAST 50%)
(note: if you have a fast mech who rely on speed and has already "tiny" leg at max state, then i would not reduce)

reduce Head Armor (but be aware that the Head may get a hit wink.gif)
so i recommend to keep 18/15 hits if possible - so not reduce to min, instead just reduce "a bit"

and reduce REAR Armor "a bit"

3.)
set up the desrired speed for ya Mech - if the next engine would cost more or equal 2 Tons i would stop, maybe even if it would be higher than 1 -

so speed is mainly based on Weight of the mech (it makes no sense to make 100 tone mech want go 70km/h - then better take 80 Ton mech)

set up the required electronics for the Mech, LAM is a must (in my opinion, it help to reduce the damage of the very potent CLRM)

ECM, BAP ... whatever you like/available

4.)
Add Wepons - for example 4LightGauss+1ERPPC (for a Daishi) or 3LightGauss+2ERPPC for Gladiator (with slight heat Probs) or whatever -

add heat sinks to be AT LEAST a bit higher than 50% (but i recommend to test if it can be used practical - sometimes it make no sense to put that extra laser in, if you just can fire twice and shut down most of the game - but exception make the rule, so test if YOU can use it)

5.)
if you have problems get the desired tonnage for weapons, heat sinks/electronic reduce a bit more armor (of maybe unsed Parts preferred, but also other very well armored section can be reduced a bit to get that ONE extra heat sinks/ammo/electronic)

and so on -

and now i will take a look at yer mechs -

You do realize, that it will lead to instakills if somebody catches you with a high dmg alpha?

With tactics like that you support lameplay, knowwhaddamsayin wink.gif
JackNamara
i don`t agree with that

lame it is to [try to] run around with 40km/h mech and shoot with 350meter weapons -

(although one light gauss may be exchanged with LBX20, or light gauss exchanged with "normal" clan gauss (800m) - however if the sight is good than 200m can be a long distance)

if i keep my legs each at about 50+, i have on both legs altogehter more than on center torso -

so you can decide what you shoot at, makes no much difference, but feel free to shoot at my legs - wink.gif

and btw, i said - "at least" no one forces you to do it actually. in normal case it is always more than 50% but the legs are surely a part where some weight can be reduced

i would try to keep 51 Armor on legs (assault/heavy class) if possible, but may go down to 42 if needed (depend on mechs - surely one more Gauss is nice if i am close to its tonnage) -
JackNamara
can be of course also more armor on legs, but usually i reduce legs armor a bit - the thing with 50% was abit exxagerated, and i hope you all have the expeirience to evaluate what i wrote -

nobody said that you should go always to 50%, i said:
"keep 50% at least."

thats a difference, by default go to 75% and see what you can do with the tonnage

of course if you come close or get to my starting area it can be devastating ... cwm14.gif biggrin.gif )

or if you know some light mechs rush and WILL/MAY get closer

but usually i am frustrated that you cannot use 50% of the firepower other assaults (or you play only on Arena, night, or reduced sight, difficult terrain all the time)
Dober
Suggest you ditch heatsinks to get some free tonnage. Try one heat sink each ERLL and one or two for each ERPPC. And if you have additional ballistic weapons, you probably need no heat sinks at all. Just alternate between alpha and ballistics and you're fine.
smoke_myst
Okay, the pictures didn't pan out.

Houston, we need more configs!

My Hauptmann for battle servers was 3CLBX20s, near max armor and an engine upgrad that made it incredibly quick for a 95 tonner. On maps with steep slopes it was quite agile.

With 3 AC-20s instead it was next to unstoppable before MP3 tongue.gif
The Grim Spooner
I love Heavy's

1: Strip weapons
2: Strip Heat
3: Give 75% reactive armour on my mech
4: (works well on a loki) stick on 2x LBX AC 20's 2 medium lasers and CSSRM6( heat sinks arent necasssary)
5: Put remaining tonnage on the speed
6: im not a big fan of electronic's but i always use LAMS

And if i can do this with any other mech i will

i dont get all this stuff about 50% on the legs if you actually pilot a mech you can run around in a novacat with 6
ER LARGE PULSE LASERS with adequete heat sinks and speed the armour inst really a problem you can basically nail any mech in 10 seconds or less

oh and who likes Uziels ? some guys recon they're a waste of time but they can go toe to toe with any mech in their class
Maestro
Uziels are a bit difficult to pilot...I prefer the Solitaire stock and the Uller if I'm going to use a small 'Mech.
The Grim Spooner
i would like to repost my post my first variant got absolutely blitzed by rail guns and ppcs and what not (DONT USE LBX AC 20's )

about the uziels who actually thinks they're difficult i find them a good overal mech personally what variant do you use when in a uller?

Lews Therin
I played single player a lot before I discovered MP3, so most of my configs that I remember off of my head are for PR1.

As a rule I always take LAMS, and clan weapons for ballistic and missles unless I am playing puretech multiplayer.

Mauler:
For extra long range: 2xTBolts and 2xLarge Laser
Usually take: 2xGauss OR 2xLBX20, 2xLarge Laser, and maybe an SRM6 if I feel like it

Awesome (favorite mech and config for single player!):
3xPPC, 2xMed. Pulse Laser and everything else towards heatsinks
Sometimes take 2xPPC and 1xerPPC OR 2xerPPC and 1xPPC if I need that extra range against dropships

Hauptmann:
3xLBX20, 1xLarge Pulse Laser
1xHeavy Gauss, 2xPPC, 5x Med. Lasers

Black Knight
2xPPC, 1xLBX10, 3-4x Med. Laser

More to come later!

you're better off just going 6 CERLGL, the lasers are instant hit and PPCs need a lead time like balistics, if you tried to alpha a target that's not stood stil more moving towards you one set of weapons will miss.

tip... LtPPC are proberly best when mixed with gauss/ACs (or other PPCs) otherwise ERLGL are superior when energy boating IMO.

I got a good one for my Behemoth

1 ER large laser (dorsal)
2 Continous beam lasers (arms)
3 Light AC2's (C, L, R, torso)

56 KPH
Jumpjets
18.50 armour

Blue Solaris

The rest is spent on heatsinks.

rest for armor play with it if u want i usually haver the legs at 1.80 or 1.70

rest is spent on sinks.....i think i had like 18 to 20 sinks

P.S: this mech has heat problems....LOL

Crab
Variant: "Pinch Pinch Pinch"

Left Arm: 1x Plasma Cannon
Right Arm: 1x Plasma Cannon
Left Torso: 1x Heavy Small Laser
Right Torso: 1x Heavy Small Laser
Center Torso/Beam mount: 1x Heavy Medium Laser

Armor: Ferro-Fibrous, maximum

Top Speed: ~104 kph

No Heat Sinks (for NH servers only, of course).

This little beauty got me my highest score on multiplayer I've ever had. If you get in close enough, an alpha strike will put almost any size enemy in the red. It also destroys arms instantly.

Plus, there's great humor value in a "Crab" that burns when it pinches...lol
CrazyFox
Can somebody explain to me why the last posts on the forum are half an year old?
Knights_Hammer
Maybe because it doesn't get used very much? There is only so much that can be said about mech configs, and it didn't gain very many members. But it looks like Electro needs to get in there and delete some spam posts.
CrazyFox
Well I posted about twenty configs six months ago, but they never appeared in the forums...
Maybe the lack of members was overshadowed by a lack of care.
Knights_Hammer
Maybe, but I think the lack of care was caused by a lack of interrest.
das_nooblet
It was more or less a lack of interest that killed it.
Of the forum's 542 "members", only about 50 are actual people. Of those 50 or so, only 9 have made more than 3 posts. Heck, if you factor out all Electro's config posts, i count for about 35% of all the forum's posts.

Too be honest, i think Electro's decided to just let the place go to seed, and you know, I can't really blame him.
Electro
^ That was more or less the case, yes. I was honestly expecting a better turnout when I first made the forum than what I got, and it kinda killed my interest. Honestly, though I still have it bookmarked, I haven't visited the forum in months.

However, I've decided to give it another try. Partly because I'm just now getting back into Mercs, having not played it in months but now I have an urge to (had to reinstall it today since my HD failed and I never did), and partly because I just want to wink.gif.

I've pruned all the forums that allow user posts (since I understand there was some less than appropriate content floating around... and I'll be watching for that), and I'm in the process of adding in all of the configs I've recieved in my abscence (which still isn't many, unfortunately).

So... yah. If you've got configs, send them please. I'd really love to see this become a worthwhile resource to people who want to have a look at the configs of others.
das_nooblet
There's already a pornbot post up in the general discussion >_<

Methinks the memberlist needs some pruning too. Looks like there's really only about 50, possibly 54 members that aren't adbots/pornbots
Electro
I'd consider pruning members, but the problem is that the banning/deleting method is extremely cumbersome. I have to look at the member list, pick a name, then type that name into the management center in order to ban/delete them. There's no easy way of, say, looking at the list and simply check marking each name I want to ban (far as I can tell, anyway). Doing that for upwards of 500 names... well, doesn't exactly seem fun to me, as you can imagine. Plus, without being able to ban IP addys (most probably have dynamic), I'd probably just have to keep doing it.

There are a few options I can see... one being to simply ban anyone that posts that crap... not ideal, seeing as how I'd much rather keep it from happening in the first place.

Another would be to require a special group in order to post at all, and require people to PM me in order to get into said group (or maybe require them to submit at least one config before I add them, either way). A bit of a pain for the user, but it could work well enough. I'd obviously go through and put everyone that has a number of posts already (and I recognize) into that group if I decided to go that route.

The third, would be to simply delete the discussion forums altogether and direct people here to MekTek in order to discuss, and make that forum purely for configs and nothing else. Probably the easiest method, and there really weren't that many discussions ongoing even before I pruned everything, so that could be an alternative.

In any event, for the time being I'm going to lock the discussion forums down until I can figure something out, I can't keep letting that stuff creep up and rely on deleting it before someone sees it. Opinions from those few who frequent (or used to, maybe will again now if activity picks up) the place would be cool... either reply here, or post in the Poll I'm going to make at the forum itself (in General Discussion).
